When to Update your Will
As a rule of thumb this should be done every three to five years, but events in your life may make it necessary to review your Will prior to this. These events include, but are not limited to, getting married, starting a business, having children, separation, and reconfiguration of your family.
Although Wills can be created to encompass many foreseeable changes in your life through memorandum and beneficiary clauses it is important to remember that they are created specifically for you and your lifestyle as you foresee it happening. When a change occurs to this lifestyle you should always take a few moments to reflect on how the change will impact your Last Will and Testament.
Sometimes only a singular change is required and a Codicil amending your Will may be a more suitable option for your circumstances. This is often used to change the Executor or add additional bequeath clauses. Our office is prepared to help you determine how your life events impact your Last Will and Testament and create a document that suits your needs and wishes.
